South Bend Police Regional Training Academy

The South Bend Regional Academy is again looking forward to providing the best in training opportunities for all our regional members in 2009.  As you know, the Academy receives no profit from membership fees. All money is spent on instructor costs and related training equipment and supplies.

Last year, without an increase in membership fees, we were able to provide twenty-eight excellent training classes and seminars for our 31 member police departments. For the first time in 2 years, because of raised costs, we must increase our fees slightly.

Listed below are the Regional Academy membership fees for 2009: 

Large Department  (100+ Officers)  $800.00

Med-Large Department (30-99   Officers)  $700.00

Small-Medium Department (13-29   Officers)  $600.00

Small Department  (1-12 Officers) $500.00 

(*please note cost is per agency, not per department member attending)

The schedule for the first half of 2009 will include the FTO course that was rescheduled from this past year. We will also present the following classes: 

  • Defensive Tactics and Handcuffing
  • Two week Drug Enforcement Administration’s Basic Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Course
  • Legal Update
  • Building Search School
  • Survival Pistol Shooting
  • F.A.T.S.
  • S.F.S.T. & T.O.P.S
  • Veteran Officers Survival School
  • Photo & Crimes Scene Processing classes
  • Bomb School
  • Diversity Training
  • Mountain Bike School
  • FBI U.C.R. Classification
  • Post Basic Tactical

We will also be conducting Post Basic Tactical training several times throughout the year for new officers. Also, to assist our membership with the new ILEA State required training, we are trying to make arrangements to provide an Instructor Development Class and EVO Training this year. 

Other non-regional academy training will again be sponsored at the South Bend Police Department.  This type of training will be provided at a cost departments will pay directly to the training provider.
